HackYSU is a hackathon, an event where students of all majors and experience levels come together to create something - normally a creative technology project like an app or website - awesome in a weekend.
The event will run Friday February 5th - Sunday February 7th on YSU campus. See below for times and directions.
Students will have 36 hours to create anything they want – software, hardware, a business plan, art, a design, anything – in the pursuit of knowledge, glory, and prizes. Hacks will be exhibited science fair style in a showcase at the end of the weekend.
Nope! Not only is HackYSU free, but all your meals during the event are on us thanks to our amazing sponsors. You'll probably leave the event with some awesome free swag too.
We want to be able to reimburse driving travelers this year! Keep an eye out for more information.
Any student currently enrolled or was enrolled in the current school year from any upper education institution can register above. YSU students will be accepted fist, then students attending surrounding colleges.
If you are under 18 or a high school student please email us prior to the event to be considered. Otherwise, you will need a college ID to be let in to the venue.
Yep! Besides first through third place prizes for the best overall hacks we'll also have category prizes thanks to our awesome sponsors. But really, it's not about winning as much as it's about learning, creating, and networking.
Did we mention some of our sponsors are looking for interns?
Nope! Not only is HackYSU not a programming-only event (though there will be a lot of it), it is an educational experience. No matter what your experience, you are welcome here. Everyone is invited to expand their skill set and make something awesome.
We'll have mentors around helping students with their hacks, hardware like Oculus Rifts to borrow and hack on (courtesy of Major League Hacking), and a team building session where you can meet some awesome people who'll either help get you on your feet or compliment your abilities.
Hackers must abide by Major League Hacking's code of conduct.
Also, teams must consist of 4 or less hackers, and all projects must be created at the hackathon to qualify for prizes. Feel free to plan a bit at home, but it wouldn't be fair if you have a head start!
Bring your student ID (you'll need it to get in), laptop, chargers, and everything you need to be a decent human being for 36 hours. That includes toiletries and your own sleeping materials.
Email us at contact@hackysu.com and we'll take care of you.
